How can I protect my property from damage by neighbours?

12 February 2014 by YourProperty

My neighbour has huge trees with long branches along the fence that overhang our property and drop long pine needles that block our gutters and down-pipes.

The roots are breaking up our driveway and back yard.

We have left it a bit late but the roots are now breaking the concrete into small pieces.

We also recently suffered from mud flows from a building site across the road that took days to clear up.

We complained to the municipality many times but until we threatened to go to the press they have done nothing.

They have now promised to ‘have a look’ – after vandalizing our hedge at the instigation of the owner of the building site who was waiting for us to come home.

We are pensioners and have no money to pay legal fees.

We have been warned not to go to the government because he has a contact there. We have nowhere to turn.

Regards,
Unhappy Neighbour
