You helped me with a question I had recently about whether or not to employ an agent in letting my property.
I decided to use a particular agent, who was very insistent that he had a number of qualified tenants lined up.
But then I discovered that his first option was an unrehabilitated insolvent who wanted to pay her rental off the books.
I was obviously very unhappy about this. The agent then proposed a second tenant who, he said, couldn’t wait to move in but that I would have to sign his mandate first.
I wanted to get my lawyer to look it over but he pressured me into signing in order to get the ball rolling.
Of course, the new tenant failed to materialise and I think he made them up just to get me to sign.
I am very angry and I’d like to know what I can do about this. I’ve already decided to report him to his company directors. Your advice would be very welcome.
