Our former landlord wants to deduct money from our deposit for the cleaning of the flat we had rented.
My wife and I left the flat two days early and the premises were cleaned and vacuumed before we handed over the keys.
The new tenants moved in on the second day of the next month and 11 days later I received an email from the landlord’s agent which said the flat had been left in a dirty state and she had to have the premises cleaned.
She now wants to deduct R3 000 from the deposit for the cleaning.
Is it not the responsibility of the landlord or the agent to inspect the premises after the keys have been handed over?
